Play SALT COUNTY with the new bestiary
A records office, a revenant as the briefed symptom, and the carrion file as the cause "elsewhere in the same location". The revenant was resolved without a shot off its own leverage line. AMENDMENT then removed two trained skills and a talent permanently, with no roll offered — which is the whole point of that entry. Burning the file exercised the fire rules on a thing rather than a person: armour counted on the round it caught and never again. The team burned too. Closed at Containment 8, Resources 1, Clearance 5; the failed extraction advanced the window clock and every crossing took the -10%. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

## SALT COUNTY — the bestiary in play
A county records office over a bank, and a member of the public behaving as somebody
who died eleven days ago. Field Lead, Physician, Night Warden, Antiquities Officer.
The generator set this up better than I could have. The brief names a **revenant** —
which is in the bestiary already — and the truth page says the cause is *elsewhere in
the same location and has not been noticed*. In a records office, that is the
**carrion file**.
**The revenant was resolved without a shot.** Its printed leverage is "tell it where
that person is, and it will go, and that becomes somebody's problem" — the Antiquities
Officer made the Knowledge roll off the parish register and it left. That is a
statblock's tactics line doing the work a fight would otherwise have done.
**Then the gap surfaced, and the file did what it is for.** AMENDMENT is written as a
rule with no saving roll, and that is deliberate: it removed the Antiquities Officer's
Language (Trade Cant) at 63%, the Night Warden's at 79%, and the Field Lead's Dead
Reckoning talent — permanently, with no roll offered and nothing to roll against. The
horror of that entry is entirely in the absence of a defence, and it reads correctly
at the table.
**Burning it exercised the new fire rules on a thing rather than a person.** Armour 6
counted on the round it caught and never again: 3, then 6, then 11, and the file was
at zero in three rounds. The team were standing in the same burning archive and took
the "clothes alight" band — the Antiquities Officer's armour 4 absorbed it completely,
the Night Warden's 2 did not.
The case closed at Containment 8, Resources 1, Clearance 5. A failed extraction
advanced the window clock to 1, and every crossing home took the resulting −10%, which
is the retuned extraction rule working end to end.
**One honest note on my own reporting:** a probe line read "Dead Reckoning: gone" for
all four agents. Only the Field Lead ever had it — the other three had never been
awarded it, and the probe could not tell the difference between a talent removed and a
talent never held. The amendments actually made were three, not four.
